Social Sports Activators & Sport Ambassadors, Univ. of Lincoln

The Students’ Union have a number of sport-related volunteering opportunities:

1) Social Sports Activators: one each for football and basketball, responsible for arranging and overseeing social games (1-2 hours per week)

2) Sport Ambassadors: help to grow participation in one of these sports – Basketball, Cricket, Dance, Hockey or Lacrosse (approx 4-5 hours per week)

Both of these offer a great opportunity to gain experience of sports development, project management and event planning…on campus!

Careers Presentation: Sports Development (Thursday 15th January)

On Thursday 15th January at 5.45pm we are delighted to be able to welcome back two of our graduates to lead a seminar on careers in sports development: Leanne Woodhead (a Development Officer at Nottinghamshire FA, and an SES graduate) and Fiona Houghton (Sports Development Team, Newark and Sherwood District Council, and an SDC graduate). Leanne and Fiona will be talking about their current roles, and also about how they gained the experience and contacts needed to pursue the careers they wanted. The advice and knowledge they will share will be of interest and value to students wanting to work in any field, and all students are encouraged to attend! The presentations will be followed by a Q&A session.

The seminar will be in the Human Performance Centre, and you do not need to book in advance. Everyone is welcome!

Project Opportunities With The National Ice Skating Association

On Tuesday 13th January, staff from the National Ice Skating Association will be visiting the School to discuss some possible projects that students could become involved with. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to gain valuable experience in the world of sports development with a national governing body of sport, and would benefit you for your work in a range of modules.

If you would like to know more, there will be an information session  in the HPC’s Psychology Lab at 11am that day. Everyone is welcome and there is no need to book a place in advance.

Careers in Sport Development talk (Monday 3rd March)

We are very pleased to welcome two of the School’s graduates back to talk about their work in sports development:

Fiona Houghton: an SDC graduate and Sports Development Officer at Newark & Sherwood District Council

Leanne Woodhead: an SES graduate and Football Development Officer at Lincolnshire FA.

Both speakers will share their experiences of working in sports development, talk about their current initiatives and offer advice about careers in sports development and how you can improve your employment prospects. Their presentations will be followed by a Q&A session.

The event will be on Monday 3rd March and will start at 5.30pm in the Coach Education Suite. All are welcome and there is no need to book in advance.
