The Students’ Union have a number of sport-related volunteering opportunities:
1) Social Sports Activators: one each for football and basketball, responsible for arranging and overseeing social games (1-2 hours per week)
2) Sport Ambassadors: help to grow participation in one of these sports – Basketball, Cricket, Dance, Hockey or Lacrosse (approx 4-5 hours per week)
Both of these offer a great opportunity to gain experience of sports development, project management and event planning…on campus!
Full details of these and other volunteering positions can be found on the SU Volunteering site: lincolnsu.com/volunteering/opportunities/community/sport
On Thursday 15th January at 5.45pm we are delighted to be able to welcome back two of our graduates to lead a seminar on careers in sports development: Leanne Woodhead (a Development Officer at Nottinghamshire FA, and an SES graduate) and Fiona Houghton (Sports Development Team, Newark and Sherwood District Council, and an SDC graduate). Leanne and Fiona will be talking about their current roles, and also about how they gained the experience and contacts needed to pursue the careers they wanted. The advice and knowledge they will share will be of interest and value to students wanting to work in any field, and all students are encouraged to attend! The presentations will be followed by a Q&A session.
The seminar will be in the Human Performance Centre, and you do not need to book in advance. Everyone is welcome!
On Tuesday 13th January, staff from the National Ice Skating Association will be visiting the School to discuss some possible projects that students could become involved with. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to gain valuable experience in the world of sports development with a national governing body of sport, and would benefit you for your work in a range of modules.
If you would like to know more, there will be an information session in the HPC’s Psychology Lab at 11am that day. Everyone is welcome and there is no need to book a place in advance.
