The Exercise Referral team at East Lindsey District Council are looking for a placement who could work two days per week for around three months at their sites in Horncastle and Louth. It would be helpful for the placement to be able to work through the summer (Jun-Aug14) as it would then cause as little disruption to their studies as possible.
The intern would primarily be conducting health checks/screening, data inputting, and contacting clients by telephone and mail and shadowing Exercise Referral Specialist.
A Level 2 Fitness Instructor or Exercise Referral qualification would be advantageous but not essential.
Local knowledge of the area would be helpful and use of own transportation is essential.
The team feel the student would gain great working experience in a successful health team both in terms of future career development and gaining a greater understanding of public sector employment.
To find out more about this opportunity please contact Ross Cameron (Lead Exercise Referral Specialist):
Ten twelve-week summer internships are available at Sport England. From their website:
“Sport England’s summer internship programme is designed to provide students with an exciting opportunity to gain valuable experience within a sports administration body. The programme will last for twelve weeks, beginning in June and ending in August. Our internship scheme will be applicable to students who have at least one year remaining to complete their degree course. We are currently looking for ten interns, with opportunities in our Business Partnerships, Facilities and Planning, Legal Services, NGB & Sports, Youth & Community Sport and Insight departments. During the three month internship placement the successful intern will be given an integral role within their department. The intern will be given an insight into life at Sport England, which will be gained through a variety of tasks including project management, collating and interpreting data, data management and working on individual elements of funded programmes. As part of the programme the intern will also be invited for departmental meetings as well as have the opportunity to attend a career development workshop.”
More details on the scheme and how to apply are here.
CrossFit Witham have recently opened at a site off Dixon Street – about 15 minutes walk from campus – and they are keen to work with our students. A number of intern roles are potentially available: helping with strength & conditioning sessions or sports massage, or presenting one-off sports science workshops etc. These would probably be voluntary but would offer a great opportunity to acquire experience and learn more about running a business in the fitness sector. It would also help if you wanted to go on to seek CrossFit certifications.
If you might be interested in finding out more, please email Sandy Willmott first. We can then arrange a time to head down to their gym and discuss the possibilities with Adam Jones (one of the co-owners). More details of CrossFit Witham are available on their website or Facebook page.
