Sport & Exercise Science Opportunities Fair, Thurs 30th November

On Thursday 30th November the School will be hosting its annual Opportunities Fair – bringing many of our partner organisations together into one place where you can hear more about opportunities to work with them, and having the chance to speak with them on an informal basis. This is the best chance during the year for all the School’s students to connect with organisations both external to and inside the University, and find out about their opportunities. Each organisation will give a one-minute introduction to themselves and their openings, after which there will be time to meet their staff. Refreshments will be provided.

When: Thursday 30th November at 5pm or 6pm
Where: Biomechanics Lab
Who: Essential for all students

In order to maximise the number of students who can participate, the event will essentially run twice: with the set of introductions being delivered at 5pm and 6pm. All students are strongly encouraged to attend one or the other.Confirmed attendees so far include the following (with another coaching company and some schools amongst those we are still hoping will also be able to attend):

Lincoln City FC  (sports science, performance analysis, sports therapy)
Lincoln City Sport & Education Trust (coaching, Imps in the Community programmes in Sport, Education, Health, Disability and Social Inclusion)
Active Lincolnshire (School Games, county events etc.)
Positive Futures (Lincolnshire County Council: using sport in disadvantaged communities)
Lincolnshire FA (opportunities with the University Community Football Hub, and the wider county)
Lincolnshire Community & Voluntary Services (the main council hub for voluntary opportunities)
Synergy Sports Coaching (paid coaching and voluntary experience)
YMCA Lincolnshire (lots of opportunities at the YMCA, The Showroom and The Nomad Trust)
Lincoln Minster School (opportunity to help with daily sport etc.)
SU Activities (opportunities include sport science (SPOTS) and coaching (COTS) support to uni teams)
UoL Sports Centre (Sports Development Officer, other paid roles & coaching courses)

Coaching Opportunities, Boston United FC (this season and next)

Boston United FC have assistant coach opportunities available this season and next season in their football youth Centre of Excellence (which has been open since 2002, funded by parents and the club). This season their teams have played Liverpool, Stoke City, Newcastle Utd, Sunderland, Leicester City, Nottingham Forest, Ipswich Town in addition to competing in youth development leagues.
 
This is an excellent opportunity for students to gain practical experience within an elite sports environment, working under Level 3, UEFA B license coaches on a regular basis, assisting in training and on match days. Fitness Instructor, Priory Academy LSST (immediate start)

The Priory Academy are seeking to appoint a professional, confident and dynamic individual to work as part of their health and fitness team. The role will include planning and implementing fitness class programmes, inducting new members and overseeing the health and fitness suite.

The ideal candidate should have a genuine interest in a career in the health and fitness industry and should hold at least the Level 2 Fitness Instructors award. In addition it is desirable that health and fitness related qualifications are held.

Start date: immediate

Hours: 9 hours per week, midweek, 3-6pm

Pay: £15,882 pro rata (£5,151 per annum)

Volunteer at IRONMAN 70.3 UK Events

IRONMAN 70.3 UK relies on volunteers to ensure an exciting event. If you are not racing IRONMAN 70.3 UK then the next best thing is to volunteer. There are many roles available from registration in the days building up to the event, transition, the swim assembly area, bike course, run course and finish area.

Volunteers are an crucial part of the athlete’s experience and get to see the whole event from behind the scenes.
