Following a request at an IMPress meeting, Cathy Thomas will be holding a talk on PGCEs on Wednesday 6th November at 9am in the Coach Ed Suite.
The talk is open to any students who are interested in applying for teacher training.
Gary Benson from the Sports Therapy Organisation will be giving a presentation in the Coach Education Suite at 6pm on Thursday 14th November. This should provide a valuable insight into the sports therapy profession and clarify the qualification/placement/employment options which may be open to you as you progress through your undergraduate studies and beyond. There will also be an opportunity to ask Gary any specific questions you may have about working in the industry.
The talk is open to everyone, but please email Danny Taylor at dtaylor@lincoln.ac.uk if you would like to attend.
A local company – 100% Swimming – have a vacancy for a Level 2 Swimming Teacher. For more details see the ad on the Human Performance Centre Facebook page.
Working in partnership with the Sports Therapy Organisation (S.T.O.) there is an opportunity for a sports massage course for students within the School of Sport and Exercise Science. The completion of this course would provide industry recognised certification as well as being a potential springboard for future progression onto a sports and remedial massage course (Year 2) and then a sports therapy diploma (Year 3). It is hoped that our links with the S.T.O. would also provide a network for subsequent placement opportunities at local events and with local teams/athletes.
The cost of the initial sports massage course will be £600 (£500 for formal training/delivery, £100 for S.T.O registration, external assessment and certification), with all formal delivery taking place over a single 7 day period. Dates are to be confirmed, but due to the intensive nature of the course it is likely that it will be scheduled during one of the research and self-directed learning weeks, either pre/post Christmas or at Easter.
If you are interested in attending this course then please get in touch with Danny Taylor (dtaylor@lincoln.ac.uk) to register your details and to be updated with further information. Be aware that the number of places available will be limited, so the sooner you can get in touch the better.
Note: Some students with an equivalent qualification have received paid placements recently. A few weekends’ work could pay for the cost of the course.
On Wednesday 4th December the School will be hosting two Emergency First Aid workshops in the HPC’s Coach Education Suite. The first session starts at 9am and finishes at 12pm. The second session starts at 12:30pm and finishes at 3:30pm. All University of Lincoln sports students can register a place on one of the workshops for a cost of £12. Attendance will provide you with a qualification which will be valid for three years. The course is specifically tailored for incidents most likely to occur within sporting activities covering lab, coaching sessions or any other field based activities.
